Obituary of William Smith

William C Smith (age 64) entered into rest on August 11, 2016 in Bellingham, WA surrounded by his family. He was born on July 17, 1952 in Oakland, California to Stepfather, Larry and Joan (Ganske) Hale. William attended and graduated from Ferndale High School and continued higher education at trade schools. He entered the military in April 1971 until his discharge in May 1972. William worked as an Electrician mate Fireman in the USN. After his military service, William worked for Dawson Construction as an onsite supervisor for 42 years and retired in 2015.

Bill was a problem solver, loving, strong, faithful, fiercely independent. He mentored many young men in the construction trades at his employment with Dawson Construction. He was one of the best fathers, husband and son anyone could ask for. He loved his children, family and his work. Bill fed and educated many orphans in Africa along with his wife Forestine. Together they built schools there and provided education for African children for over 10 years.

He is survived by his wife whom he married in Idaho on April 17, 1987; Florestine (Horn) Smith; sons, Corey and Casey Smith; step sons, Mike and Travis Maroon; step daughters, Charolette Rose, Lisa C. Maroon; brothers, Jacque hale, Jay Hale of Washington State; sister, Sheryl Fulner of Sedro Woolley, Wa; Step grandparent, Carrie Baird of Detroit, Michigan; ten grandchildren and one great grandchild.

Bill is preceded in death by his mother, Joan; sister, April Sanders; step grandparent, Harry Hale and his grandparents, Jack and Vesper Ganske.

A celebration of life service will be held on Tuesday, August 16, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. at Jerns Funeral Home 800 E. Sunset Dr. Bellingham, WA. Please sign the Book of Memories, light a candle and leave your condolences for the family at www.JernsFH.com
